A Critical Mass of Love, Pt. 2
WWH - “We were talking about the space between us all,
and the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion.
(They) never glimpse the truth. Then it’s far too late when they pass away.”
Isn’t it such an unnecessary shame that so many people think we are not connected and that there is a space which separates us from each other? Oh, I am not saying that we are all conjoined twins. As we walk down the street, air separates our physical bodies. We are individuals. We are of different beliefs and different ideologies. We have different personalities. But there is so much more that connects us than separates us.
Most people know that the DNA which separates us from our pet dog or cat is indeed very small. But human beings essentially share the same DNA. A few years ago a British biologist traced our DNA to the San Tribe of Africa. Spencer Wells’ 2003 book The Journey of Man — in connection with National Geographic’s Genographic Project — discusses a genetic analysis of the San and asserts that their blood contains some of the oldest genetic markers found on Earth.
Therefore, the San likely represent one of the oldest existing populations. Genetic markers
present on the y chromosome are passed down through thousands of generations in a relatively pure form. The PBS documentary based on the book follows these markers throughout the world, demonstrating that all of humankind can be traced back to the African continent and that the San are one of the oldest, most genetically unadulterated, remnants of humankind’s ancient ancestors. In the May 2011 edition of the Scientific American, the DNA sequence first reported to be the precursor for all human beings was confirmed.
Though we may conduct our daily lives as if we are independent of each other, we are not. We are made of the same stuff. And even the air which separates us as we pass one another during the course of our day, has an element which is common to all of us in a most special way. That element is Argon.
Argon is the third most common gas in the Earth’s atmosphere, at 0.93%, making it more common than carbon dioxide. The unique attribute of Argon is that it is an inert gas. This means it does not combine very readily with other elements. In recent years there have been a few successful attempts at combining Argon with other elements, but these compounds have proven very unstable and only last a short time before the Argon releases itself from the confines of the compound to return alone into the atmosphere. What does this mean to us?
As difficult as it may be to comprehend, it means that every time you breathe in, you inhale Argon. When you breathe out, you exhale Argon, only to be inhaled again by someone else on the planet. Argon circulates around the planet in finite quantities over and over as our atmosphere circles the planet. In fact it is more than likely, though it may take millennia, that eventually you will inhale the Argon once exhaled by Gandhi, Socrates, Cleopatra, or the person of history you most admire. And the Argon you exhale will be inhaled by someone standing next to you or by someone in the far future. Think about that as you pass someone on the street. As you exhale Argon, the person you pass may be inhaling the very same Argon you just exhaled.
“We were talking about the love that’s gone so cold and the people who gain the world and lose their soul. They don’t know. They can’t see. Are you one of them?”
Are you aware that both the brain and the heart have magnetic fields which can be measured? In scientific experiments, when external stimuli were presented to volunteers hooked up to instruments which measure these magnetic fields, interesting conclusions were made. You may think it is the brain which first reacts to a stimulus, be it a written or spoken word, a picture, an object, or an event. It is not. It is the heart whose magnetic field responds first. When the subject is shown a picture of a mutilated child, the magnetic field of that person’s heart measures negatively. It is only then that the heart’s magnetic field sends a message to the brain. How the brain responds depends on that person’s beliefs and ego.
When the subject is shown a picture of a bucolic meadow, a video portraying an act of selflessness and kindness, or a strain of relaxing music, it is the heart whose magnetic field responds first and responds positively. Then that magnetic field transmits information which is processed by the brain. Once again, how the person acts upon receiving that information depends on the individual’s frames of reference, their ideologies, their intellect and their ego.
We often hear people ask, “What is your gut reaction?” The “gut” to which they refer, is actually the heart, and it validates those who say the “seat of the soul” is the heart; that those who have claimed for thousands of years… gurus, teachers, religious leaders and philosophers… that the heart is the place where all the answers to our problems reside, have had it right all along. Live from your heart chakra. Open it up to give and receive the love that is overflowing in the universe. Too many people, especially those who wish to deny all of us the basic necessities for a healthy, happy, secure and fulfilling life, are thinking with their brains and their egos (and their wallets,) and not their hearts.
“We were talking about the love we all could share (and) when we find it,
to try our best to hold it there. With our love, with our love, we could save the world. If they only knew.”
If they only knew that we are all connected; that we are all one. Not as some idealistic notion, not as some wishful thinking, but as scientific fact, perhaps then we could act according to our true nature… that of cooperation, democracy, kindness and intentional sharing, all of which spring from love and the heart.
“Try to realize it’s all within yourself.
No one else can make you change.
And to see you’re really only very small
and life flows on within you and without you.
When you’ve seen beyond yourself then you may find peace of mind
is waiting there.
And the time will come when you see
we’re all one, and life flows on within you and without you.” – George Harrison

“We are stardust . . . and we got to get ourselves back to the garden” All forms are interconnected, born of the same elements forged by the same fiery passions, to be, to live, to experience and to express our pleasures, fears, joys and anxieties about the lives we live . Looking deep into the eyes of the other I see through the differences and discover all that there is that we have in common. Empathy and compassion need to be encouraged, nurtured and transmitted , they are the currency we possess that enable us to turn on the light that extinguishes the darkness that keeps us from seeing ourselves in our “brothers” eyes.
Shine on superstar. . .
Nice article – hopeful and full of love. It is wonderful to actually read about scientific proof of what we hippies have known all along. Of course we are not alone as philosophers and religious Gurus have told us these the same truths … and now modern science reinforces that truth.
