Why Europe is Fucked!
By Glenn Simpson,Worldwidehippies – (UK,Leeds) I often wonder how America views our European Union. On the face of it we are a land mass much like the US, lots of Countries (States) joined together – Holland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany etc, with my litte Britain laying just off shore (a bit like Hawaii). If America can exist with States, side by side, not falling out with each other why can’t Europe? I will enlighten you.
500 million people form the 27 Countries that are now the EEC, some of them are not even in Europe (a bit like Texas and the United States). There are very distinct differences between the the North and South of the USA – climate, lifestyle, attitudes but, at least, everyone is speaking the same language (maybe with the exception of New Yorkers) not so here. From the freezing ex Communist Countries of Eastern Europe through the sunny Mediterranean to the rain soaked United Kingdom we all have a different mother tongue. The truth is: Gt Britain, itself, is formed by four Countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Nth Ireland) who haven’t got a clue what each other are talking about. We are all very different.
Now, initially, the European Union was sold, to us, as membership of a “Common Market”- a pan European trade area where we could all make and sell stuff to each other. A Great and logical idea, we all thought, and happy as Larry we all went along with it, and it was cool – for a while. In the beginning there were about 9 major Euro economies linked together. Trade flourished, the Germans were eating spaghetti, the Greeks were driving Renaults, Spaniards were buying Dutch daffodils and – we Brits discovered fruit!
Now as with all smooth running, profitable, systems the Politicians had to get involved and ruin it. Over the course of 20yrs , and “under the radar” the leaders of each Country became, with the encouragement of the Bankers, more and more concerned that people were actually earning money and enjoying a decent lifestyle. Their solution was to integrate all the Countries together politically, bring more in, and start imposing rules, laws and taxes on them all. Without any member Countries agreement a huge sprawling bureacratic nightmare was created in Brussells Belgium (of all places!) What a fine institution they have made for themselves, carpeted throughout – it’s called the European Parliament, This Obelisk of petty rules and paperwork has proved to be a boon to Politicians, $Billions have been spent building and structuring it and thousands of men, in very expensive suits, started earning Millions of bank notes. Realising they were onto a good thing the Politicos started to create “jobs” for themselves by creating a European Super State (EUSSR). Instead of wasting time and putting their vision of a Euro State to the public vote, they just voted for each other and started making laws that everybody had to follow and, messing about with every Countries finances and treating all of them all as the same – which of course, they are not.
To ensure that nobody interfered with (i.e. voted for) this ever growin gravy train of bureaucracy, Euro Politicians (EMPs) decided to hold their own elections and voted themselves back in every year with more powers and more ridiculous salaries (+ expenses). To complete the picture and, then add to the logistical pandemonium of telling people what to do in loads of different languages, the Bankers stepped out of the shadows and created the Euro – one currency for all, a bit like the Dollar? Not at all, they started imposing taxes that were designed for all Countries (one size fits all) which may sound OK to an American, all States paying a similar tax rate! Here’s the rub – here in Europe there are people earning $200 per month in one Country and $2,000 in another, how can they all pay the same tax? A packet of 20 smokes costs $10 in Britain but, $5 in Portugal and, petrol is cheaper in most Continental European Countries than the UK. Consequently, and to the Bankers delight, the “loser Countries” had to borrow from them, with no real manufacturing or produce they were subsidised by the richer ones and, inevitably, are going Bankrupt. The solution sanctioned by the MEPs in Brussels is, to get the rich Countries to pay $Trillions to bail out the poor Countries – that way the Banks get their money.
The European Parliament oversees it all and, unelected, represents 500 Million of us. The new President of Europe is the head of the second largest democratic electorate on the planet – to India, he has more real political power than President Obama, who knows his name? I don’t so I shall Google it and be back shortly…………
His name is Martin Schulz, (excellent salary and pension, hand made shoes and a nice Villa in the Alps). He has the same surname as my favourite character in the great 60′s TV comedy series “Hogans Heroes” – Sgt Schulz, “I see nozzink” was his catchphrase- that’s how I will be able to remember my Presidents name. He’s a Powerful man, Pres Schulz – a bit like Nero was.
The whole European dream has gone tits up, the Euro is about to crash and burn, the European people are sick of the system and some are taking to the streets, in short – Europes fucked!

Mighty fine work here my friend. Welcome Back. : )
Europe has gotten a raw deal , not to be able to vote on the President of the EU . Not that i am actually convinced OUR elections are on the level , there is evidence to the contrary . The bankers will ruin all , both U.S. and E. U. . I got an idea . Lets do a redesign . In some few states there is a process buy which the people can write and vote on POLICY , bypassing those deceitful , cowardly politicians . First initiative ? Declaring all banks to be Time banks . Only . That way no one group or person can collect any more wealth than actual hours they have in their life expectancy …. Well it would be cool to vote on anyway .
Thanks for the insight; you’re right about the power of the unelected; much like the SCOTUS and Grover Nordquist, who had all Republicans in Congress sign a pledge not to raise taxes under any circumstances. This oath to St. Nordquist has superceded their oath to uphold the Constitution. In my opinion, they should all be impeached for so blatantly violating their oath of office.
They muck through Glenn, they always do, enjoyed your little rand though.
