Comments to the Editor: Barton (Bart) Turner called Worldwide Hippies, “faux, lilly-white hippy editorial pretenders, Fuckers” – Will he “Man Up” and say it on Hippie TV?
On The Mississippification of America; Mississippi today has more elected black officials than any other state. Yes there are racists abundant in the Republican party, but to pretend that the Democrat party is not also infested is silly. There is a growing number of inter-racial couples in the South and I believe that as the older generation dies off there is every hope that whites and blacks in the South will come to accept and benefit from their conjoined fates and will continue the multi-generational reconciliation that is well under way. I have witnessed the struggle and acceptance of older white Mississippians coming to terms with the death of Jim Crow and state-sanctioned apartheid. Mississippi had its own home-grown equivalents of the Taliban; the Klan, White Councils, and a state spy agency, which kept everyone in line through fear and intimidation and the very real threat of death. I live in DC now and can assure you there is massive indifference to the suffering of African-Americans among the young elites who move here to take their places of privilege. The Democrats and Republicans in Congress together have passed in-your-face racist drug laws and mandatory sentences that have destroyed the lives of tens of thousands of young African-Americans. DC, because of its majority of African-American citizens still doesn’t even have representation in Congress! In my admittedly limited experience, elite is just another word for racist with an advanced degree. Congress is still and will be for decades to come the center of white dominance in America. There are two wings to America’s White Supremacist Party – liberal and conservative. Both of them are complicit. Both must be confronted.
Peace and Thanks to African-Americans past and present for all you have done to make America better.

WWH- We did not write this article, Barton. The Mississippification of America
Your comment is well said. It is your follow up comment,we take issue with.
Actually, it really makes you sound like part of the problem man.
(one hour and twelve minuets later)
What? You don’t have the balls and/or ovaries to print my letter? Awaiting moderation my ass, you faux, lilly-white hippy editorial pretenders. How many African-Americans have appeared on your Monday newscast ever? I spent 15 years in some of America’s most traumatized, forgotten, impoverished neighborhoods teaching beautiful African-American children in Mississippi, Maryland, and DC and I never saw one fucking nano-difference between Republican or Democrat administrations in their lives or in our schools. And while I’m on this mini-rant, why in the Flying-Spaghetti-Monster’s name aren’t there more African-American hippies? Print my letter.
Peace.
You fuckers.

Seriously,
Print my letter.
WWH, Bart, anytime you would like to appear on our TV program contact joe@worldwidehippies.com. If you are so aware of our motives and prejudices, lets debate them.
Please, though Bart, read our about us page first, get the chip off your shoulder and have something intelligent to contribute. Otherwise just keep putting your uninformed, incorrect, prejudiced (Against White Hippies) and misdirected angry comments about Worldwide Hippies on the site.

Wow! I have family in Mississippi, and live in the deep south. I agree that with each generation it gets better down here – but it’s going to take time.
And, we are always looking for folks to contribute! If you reckon we’re all to lily white [or old, although I am pretty young] and out of touch, please toss your hat in. Write something we can print. Record something we can add.
Just saying.
Peace, Sandy
Dear WWH editoral staff,
My follow-up letter was meant as humor with a touch of irony and a splash of snark. I apologize for offending you and your staff and will refrain from further comments in the future. I am a hippie and have been one for forty years or more and have no need to defend myself or my work with developmentally disabled adults or African-American children. Am I perhaps overly sensitive to perjorative, underinformed commments about my home state – you got me there. I am not interested in any kind of shouting match or continued fight with you good people. I stand chastised and will slink back into my sad little life. Just for the record, I spent a good part of last week on a one-man protest march here in Washington, DC in front of the Capital and White House, carrying a sign that read, “If Dr. King was still alive and marching, would you join him?” I would like to be a part of getting the Next American Civil Rights Movement up and running, continuing the work of the 1960′s. I am a life long supporter of civil-rights and justice for people and am really kind of sad about all of this. I have also been a supporter of both local Occupy movements and was one of 72 DC citizens arrested last year trying to bring attention to the disenfranchised status of the 620,000 Americans living in DC with zero congressional representation. I would like to turn my fifteen minutes of fame back in and reclaim my obscurity. I appreciate all you do on behalf of the voiceless and oppressed, keep up the struggle. I am not worthy.
