1st. Rant o’ the New Year

NRA Poster Boy.

Yes, here it comes. Pardon me if this rambles or wanders or seems unconnected but in my own odd way I’m going to try to connect the dots of my “ pissed offedness!”

For starters, I am freaking TIRED of the NRA! Just as the Republican Party is not the party of my father’s generation, so too, the NRA is not his NRA anymore. My dad was a proud member back in the day when the NRA was for responsible gun ownership and not the lobbying arm of the weapon industry. Hey, gun owners, you sportsmen and hunters and collectors, check out the NRA’s literature and recent statements via interviews and speeches. You can Google or YouTube them. Then go back and read the original mission statement of the NRA when it was formed. Compare them.

Moving on to that doughy little ball of hate , Glenn Beck. NOW, since I suppose he has collected enough from his shilling gold and fear he’s decided to build his own little armed Utopia, somewhere out west. YES, you too can live full time, in “Beckistan”. Fine, he wouldn’t call it a commune but that is what it would be. Communes have been around forever and our country has had hundreds of them since our beginning. Frankly, when I think of Beck though, I think it could be closer to Jim Jones or David Koresh or Charles Manson’s Utopia than yours or mine or even the NRA’s. What he is proposing is legal so, more power to him and those who believe in the former “shock jock” and self- proclaimed, “rodeo clown”. I just hope that for those residents sake, Beck follows federal and state laws or he will prove my point about no one, no matter how well armed, being able to stop the government when they come a knocking. Frankly, I could be wrong, but I think he has NO real plan to form his own little country within a country, something akin to Vatican City, being a city state inside of the country of Italy. I wonder if everyone that moves to Beck’s Utopia will have to be Mormon or convert?

I urge you to check out THE RIGHT WING WATCH on your computer and YouTube. It’s from THE PEOPLE FOR THE AMERICAN WAY. Check out the latest crazy from the supposedly rational adults who want to arm teachers, janitors and even CHILDREN. Yes, children. I just watched a clip of some loon discussing it with Beck on the TRWW channel on YouTube. We have always had fringe yakkers among us but we used to either pity them or laugh at them. We didn’t take fucking NOTES and send people to Congress that agreed with them!!!!

That brings me to Toomey and his Tea Party fellow believers. No, Pat, raising the debt ceiling doesn’t give the President carte blanche to spend like the proverbial “drunken sailor”. In the first place, the President cannot SPEND without the CONGRESS approving the monies. What raising this bizarre “debt ceiling” does is PAY for the stuff congress has ALREADY bought. It’s the country’s FUCKING credit card bill come due! It’s the UNFUNDED wars for the most part. It has NOTHING to do with Social Security or Medicare.(except that congress owns a ton o’ money to pay back what they raided from SS!)

So, what does the brain trust in CONGRESS do? They lie about what the debt ceiling is. They brag about holding the country hostage. One “Einstein” even floated the idea of not raising the ceiling just to see what would happen to the economy, ours and globally. An. “experiment”, WTF?

The biggest rant I have in me though is the shameless and DISGUSTING piece of CRAP ad that the NRA put out right ahead of the President’s statement on gun control. It claims that President Obama is “ELETIST” because he has secret security to protect his daughters but refuses to let us protect our kids!

STFU, you low life liars! ANY president’s family has to have secret service protection. I’d call you morons, but you damn well know better. That was a low ad even for your board of directors. For pity’s sake, of course those kids have secret service agents. They also have a father that gets more death threats every day than any other president we’ve had. I think some of those threats probably come from some of your membership. You, know, the ones you have lied to and ginned up their fear and hatred with those lies.

Do we have a terrible problem with violence in our country? YES! Do we need to do things to curb that violence? YES! Should we arm teachers and janitors and kids? NO! Frankly, if we are going to entertain the idea of arming ANYONE at each and every school I’d rather it be a member of our national guard. Keep in mind, there were armed guards at some of these places where mass shootings have happened, including Ft. Hood. I CERTAINLY do NOT want (as the NRA, proposed) armed members of that organization wandering the campus of ANY school!!! Think about some of the NRA members that you know. Would YOU trust them armed and in a school? At least in the National Guard I would hope they have had psychological testing and training in high stress situations. At least I’m hoping that they are better trained for stress than they were back in the 60s and Kent State. That shows or should point out just what can happen with armed guards on campus.

BTW, you do know that one of the few places that the NRA and other gun groups specifically prohibit packing a gun is at gun shows. Grade schools and churches fine, guns shows? Not so much!

No, we are never going to make every place or everyone safe 24/7. What we CAN do is pressure the congresscritters that suck at the teat of the NRA and the manufacturers of these weapons and clips made for warfare, to be decent human beings and show their loyalty to their country and fellow citizens. How much profit equals the lives lost? How much for the lives of the victims at Sandy Hook? AMENDMENT my ass! It has nothing to do with the Constitution and everything to do with SALES! Money, it always comes down to the love of money.

As I have said before, and I really shouldn’t HAVE to preface my thought with this but- I have used a gun. I come FROM a family of hunters. I have family and friends that own guns. I do NOT want ANYONE taking them away. I DO want military grade weapons, assault weapons and clips only available from now on, to the military and the police. I want background checks for ALL weapon sales. I want every person purchasing ANY gun to be tested for proficiency with that weapon. No one gets a driver’s license without proving they can drive and that they know the rules of the road. Yes, driving is a privilege, not a right but it’s a SAFETY ISSUE. It just makes sense. I want all gun owners to have to carry specific insurance. I’m sure I can think of a few more things but I’ll go with these for now.

Oh one more thing- why is it, in states like mine here in Pennsylvania, I can get a gun, even a concealed carry permit but I cannot order a stun gun or some types of pepper spray? I’ve looked into that. I haven’t had an answer and I’d really like to know.

So, there it is. My 1st. rant for 2013.
