WS – Guillotine, guilotiiiine, guillotiiiiiine …
United Nations investigator has demanded that the US publish classified documents regarding the CIA’s human rights violations under former President George W. Bush, with hopes that the documents will lead to the prosecution of public officials.
Documents about the CIA’s program of rendition and secret detention of suspected terrorists have remained classified, even though President Obama’s administration has publicly condemned the use of these “enhanced interrogation techniques”. The US has not prosecuted any of its agents for human rights violations.
UN investigator Ben Emmerson, the UN special rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights while countering terrorism, said that the classified documents protect the names of individuals who are responsible for serious human rights violations.
“Despite this clear repudiation of the unlawful actions carried out by the Bush-era CIA, many of the facts remain classified, and no public official has so far been brought to justice in the United States,” Emmerson said in a report to the UN Human Rights Council, according to Reuters.
Kept in secret prisons around the world, the CIA’s detainees were subjected to torture including waterboarding, sleep deprivation and various other interrogation techniques that violate human rights. The detainees were often subjected to clandestine transfers to secret prisons known as CIA ‘black sites’. More…

Pussy Riot Play Raided By Russian Officials
WS – You know… It’s true those Russians can be authoritarian, brutal, vengeful, oppressive, un-democratic, and mean to girls but; Damn they have some fuc$ing cool looking hats!
A theatre production focusing on the Pussy Riot trial has been interrupted by officials, although the show did go on.
Russian immigration officials, Cossacks and several police officers have barged into a Moscow theatre in an attempt to stop a play re-enacting the Pussy Riot trial.
Milo Rau, the Swiss director of the production, said the officials interrupted the play at the Sakharov Centre and demanded to check his documents.
He said they were soon followed by a group of irate Cossacks – people who claim to be descended from a once-feared Tsarist-era paramilitary group – who said they were offended by the play.
Several police officers then arrived during the performance of The Moscow Trials, which focuses on the feminist punk band and other artists. More…
Vatican accused of cover up over Cardinal Keith O’Brien’s ‘sexual conduct’
WS – He must have left a paper trail. See below.
The Vatican has been accused of orchestrating a cover-up over the disgraced Scottish Cardinal Keith O’Brien amid claims that it knew of allegations against him for five months but kept them secret.
Revelations that the most senior Roman Catholic cleric in Britain had a secret sex life cast a shadow over the first day of a meeting of the Church’s cardinals as they gathered to choose a successor to Benedict XVI, now Pope Emeritus.
The 142 “princes of the church” met in the Paul VI Hall of the Vatican to discuss the Church’s problems and the sort of qualities required of the new pope to deal with them.
After denying that he had made sexual advances to four men – three priests and one former priest – Cardinal O’Brien issued a statement on Sunday confessing that his “sexual conduct” had fallen far below the standard expected. More…

A Finnish bog roll company p*ssed off Church leaders with biblical quotes printed on their paper.
It’s so easy to offend people these days. Take the Finnish toilet paper company that were simply trying to give people a little reading material when on the bog, only to be p*ssing off Norwegian Church leaders.

WS – Federal probe = Eric Holder + Incompetence + Corrupt Corporate Tool – Poor, sick and homeless = Justice “dumping”
A California state lawmaker is calling for a federal investigation into the alleged “dumping” of a Nevada mental patient last month in Sacramento.
Hospital and health officials in Nevada, meanwhile, vowed to look into the circumstances surrounding the patient’s release and issue a public report about what happened.
“We don’t take this lightly at all,” said Dr. Tracey Green, Nevada’s state health officer.
The patient, James Flavy Coy Brown, 48, disappeared onto Sacramento’s streets last month, a day after he arrived by Greyhound bus from Las Vegas, according to staffers at the Loaves & Fishes homeless services complex near downtown Sacramento. According to staffers who spoke to him, he said he had no family in Sacramento and had never visited the capital city.
Brown was frightened and confused when he arrived at the Loaves & Fishes complex on Feb. 13, staffer Molly Simones said. He carried his discharge papers from the Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services psychiatric hospital and a schedule detailing his 15-hour bus ride from Las Vegas.
The medical discharge papers, obtained by The Bee, ordered that Brown be taken “to the Greyhound bus station by taxi with 3 day supply of medication,” including one drug to treat schizophrenia and another for depression. More…
Locusts Swarm Egypt:Bugs Threaten Egyptian Harvest
WS – My only question is; God or Monsanto?
Devastating locusts swarm Egypt just ahead of Passover, prompting a national emergency.
Locust swarms are a seasonal problem for Egypt. Each year, the Agriculture Ministry’s anti-locust department is tasked with getting rid of the destructive insects that are responsible for wiping out hundreds of square miles of crops.
According to the Jewish Press, Egyptian minister of agriculture Dr. Salah Abdel Momen revealed the sobering numbers of the 2013 infestation: As many as 30 million have made their way north from Suez to Cairo. If the locust infestation isn’t handled promptly, then many Egyptian farmers could see their harvest gone in a blink of an eye. More…

Department of Justice warns that spending cuts will hamper its ability to investigate Wall Street fraud. More than four years after the financial crisis, not a single Wall Street executive has been jailed…
The Federal Bureau of Investigations told lawmakers in a recent letter that across-the-board cuts resulting from sequestration “will cause current financial crimes investigations to slow as workload is spread among a reduced workforce. In some instances, such delays could affect the timely interviews of witnesses and collection of evidence.
The warning closed with the type of reasoning that critics of the lack of investigations would readily support. “Left unchecked, fraud and malfeasance in the financial, securities, and related industries could hurt the integrity of U.S. markets,” Mueller offered. “In addition, the public will perceive the FBI as less capable of aggressively and actively investigating financial fraud and public corruption, which would undercut the deterrence that comes from strong enforcement.” More…
