19 wounded in New Orleans Mother’s Day parade shooting
WS – This was a local neighborhood gang shooting. Bad, yes but, the bigger story is the Media making it sound like a Huge Citywide Parade was under attack. It was NOT a Mothers Day Parade. It was a block party.
Almost two dozen people including two 10-year-old children have been injured after as many as three gunmen opened fire at a ‘second line’ of a parade on Mother’s Day in New Orleans. Three people remain in critical condition following the shootout.
Up to 400 people were participating in the neighborhood festival on Frenchmen Street, situated in the east of the city, when several shots were fired. The incident occurred around 2pm local time (19:00 GMT) on Sunday.
“We have mothers, sisters, little children who were shot,” New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu told local press.
Nine people were immediately taken to University Hospital by emergency responders, eight of whom were suffering from gunshot wounds, according to local channel WWLTV. One more being treated was injured in an attempt to escape from the shooting. More…

Testimony, Documents Link US Citizen to Killings
Two months after the initial Afghan government demands for the US to withdraw its forces from Wardak Province, the troops are still there, and the government is still unhappy about it. But new details may mean an additional push after their first effort failed to convince the US to go.
Afghan officials now say that they have a specific suspect, an Afghan-born American citizen named Zakaria Kandahari, who they have implicated in at least 15 different killings or disappearances, and who they have on video torturing a detainee.
Kandahari appears to have been affiliated with the Special Forces in Nerkh District, which were the source of a lot of complaints. Among the 15 he is accused of killing is Mohammad Qassim, whose body was found in a trash pit just outside the base after being detained.
US officials confirmed the existence of the video tape showing Kandahari, but denied that he was an American citizen, insisting “everyone in that video is Afghan.” Afghan officials say Kandahari was speaking English in the video, and an unseen supervisor is also heard speaking English in an American accent. Syria’s Civil War, Chemical Weapons “Theater” & Obama’s Backing of Israeli Strikes
WS – Obama’s “You lie and I will swear to it” foreign policy. And yes, dispite Main Stream Media telling you different every day. Jews can lie. And Presidents can be Punks.
As the United States moves toward increased intervention in Syria, we’re joined by Robert Fisk, the longtime Middle East correspondent of the British newspaper The Independent. Just back from two weeks in Syria reporting around the capital Damascus, Fisk discusses what he calls the “theater of chemical weapons,” the latest in Syria’s civil war — a battle he says the Syrian government is winning — as well as his reaction to what he calls President Obama’s “pitiful” backing of the recent Israeli missile strikes. “Don’t ask me if they have used chemical weapons,” Fisk says. “It’s conceivable. There really isn’t any proof. What you have got to realize is that this is a propaganda war just as much as it is a savage war, killing many thousands of human beings.”
WS – Whoops… My bad. This was a weekend story, and was to be forgotten by monday. I’m such a rebel!
Former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling – who spearheaded an epic $40 billion fraud that cost thousands of employees their jobs and retirement funds but who nonetheless famously claimed, “We’re the good guys. We are on the side of the angels” – has reportedly cut a deal with prosecutors to get out of jail a decade early in exchange for paying his victims a modest amount to shut up already. The deal, arranged after the sort of complex legal maneuvering only rich white men can afford to indulge in, calls for Skilling to stop suing everyone and agree to pay his victims $40 million, or 0.1% of what Enron stole in the first place. In a relative universe, the six years he’s served is more than any of the current perps who trashed the economy. Then again, if he was a black guy who robbed the 7-11, he’d still be cleaning latrines for some time to come.
WS – Night Vision Condoms?
National Journal reports: Based on the Pentagon’s most recent survey on the issue in 2010, the epidemic [of rapes and sexual assaults] affects more than 19,000 victims each year. Meanwhile, according to annual Veterans Affairs Department surveys, 20 percent of female veterans screen positive for “military sexual trauma,” as do 1 percent of male veterans — many of them victims of male-on-male rape. Cumulatively, the data suggest that hundreds of thousands of current and former members of the military have been raped, sexually assaulted, or subjected to “unwanted” sexual contact. In 2010 alone, the VA conducted nearly 700,000 free outpatient counseling sessions to veterans suffering from military sexual trauma.
And the military-justice system has failed to check that epidemic. Persistent, corroborated accounts (by victims and sex-crimes experts) describe a command climate that tends to cast suspicion and blame on victims. Too often, the system treats reports of rape and sexual assault not as heinous crimes to be prosecuted harshly but as unwanted distractions from “good order and discipline” to be dealt with, hastily, at the lowest command level. Frequently, this means simply transferring or demoting suspected perpetrators for “sexual harassment” and referring distraught victims to uniformed mental-health experts who diagnose them with “personality disorders” and help wash them out of the military.
What happened is this: One instructor has been convicted of rape and multiple cases of aggravated sexual assault of female trainees, and 16 other trainers have been charged or are under investigations for crimes ranging from aggravated sexual assault to improper sexual relationships with 42 female trainees. WS – These brave cops. They murdered this guy with under 10 policemen.- Why are the cops never subjected to drug and alcohol tests after this shit happens?
A California father of four died Wednesday shortly after a group of police allegedly beat him with batons as he lay defenseless on the sidewalk. Cops, before confiscating witness’ cameras, also reportedly unleashed a canine unit on him.
David Sal Silva, 33, allegedly resisted when police approached him to ask if he was who neighbors called about to complain of an intoxicated man in the area. The officers called for backup and, witnesses told the Bakersfield Californian, Silva was soon being beaten in the face and upper body by as many as nine policemen and their batons. At least one of the cops reportedly held a German Shepherd on a leash nearby.
Witnesses who had recorded the events on their cell phone cameras had the devices confiscated by officers, who claimed the footage was part of a police investigation that could yield evidence. The Sherriff’s Department has released the names of seven officers who were on the scene, but the identities of the California Highway Patrol police who were also there have not yet been made public.
“When I got outside I saw two officers beating a man with batons, and they were hitting his head so every time they would swing, I could hear the blows to his head,” said witness Ruben Ceballos, who told the Californian the noise was so loud it woke him up.More…

On April 29, the US Supreme Court, ruling in the case Boyer v. Louisiana, denied an appeal by Jonathan Edward Boyer, who asserted that Louisiana’s seven-year failure to provide funds for his court-appointed attorney violated his constitutional right to a speedy trial.
The State of Louisiana indicted Boyer for the murder of Bradlee Marsh in 2002 and announced that it would seek the death penalty. Boyer was provided a court-appointed attorney, but over the ensuing five years no funds were provided for his lawyer. During this five-year period, various branches of the state government indicated that they did not have the funds or they were not responsible for funding Boyer’s defense.
In 2007, this impasse was resolved when the state announced it would no longer seek the death penalty. This reduced the complexity and costs of Boyer’s defense and funds thereafter became available. Boyer was tried and convicted of murder in 2009.
Boyer appealed his conviction on the basis that the state’s failure to fund his defense deprived him of his constitutional right to a speedy trial. He further asserted that as a consequence of the seven-year delay, he suffered mental deterioration (having been declared mentally incompetent for nine months) and was legally handicapped by a loss of witnesses, including one who had identified two other individuals as the killers. As a result, he asserted, his defense had been prejudiced. More…
WS – What’s the big deal? They’re only a few protesters and no one ever complains.
Over the last several years I have watched the rise of an important new intellect on the American scene. Ron Unz, publisher of The American Conservative, has demonstrated time and again the extraordinary ability to reexamine settled issues and show that the accepted conclusion was incorrect.
One of his early achievements was to dispose of the myth of immigrant crime by demonstrating that “Hispanics have approximately the same crime rates as whites of the same age and gender.” You can imagine the uproar, but Unz won the debate.
Unz provoked and prevailed in another controversy when he concluded that Mexican-Americans have approximately the same innate intelligence as whites, with their lower IQs being due to transitory socio-economic deprivation.
He next surprised by showing the connection between the declining real value of the minimum wage (about one-third less than in the 1960s) and immigration. Americans cannot survive on one-third less minimum income than four decades ago, and the unfilled jobs are taken by Hispanics who live many to the room. A higher minimum wage, Unz pointed out, would cure the illegal immigration problem as American citizens would fill the jobs. More…

The antiboycott laws, enforced by US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security under the Export Administration Act, discourage and even outlaw “furthering or supporting” the Israeli boycott.
The Bureau is charged with administering and enforcing the Antiboycott Laws under the Export Administration Act.
Those laws discourage, and in some circumstances, prohibit U.S. companies from furthering or supporting the boycott of Israel sponsored by the Arab League, and certain Moslem countries, including complying with certain requests for information designed to verify compliance with the boycott.
Compliance with such requests may be prohibited by the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and may be reportable to the Bureau.
The penalties for taking part in the boycott range from fines of tens of thousands of dollars to multiple years in prison.
The Export Admnistration Act (EAA) specifies penalties for violations of the Antiboycott Regulations as well as export control violations. These can include: More…
