I’m all for free speech. I hate censorship. I have been an ACLU member for years. That said free speech does not leave anyone free of the consequences that may come from saying whatever one chooses to say. Free speech means only that the government can’t stop you from letting everyone know how you feel. It doesn’t mean that others can’t or won’t or shouldn’t judge you and in the case of Steve King; demand your removal. I know that I want him out of government. This latest spewing of hate was the last straw in my and many others opinion.
King in a tweet praised Geert Wilders, including a cartoon depicting Wilders plugging a hole in a wall that reads “Western civilization.”
“It’s a clear message,” King said on Monday. “We need to get our birth rates up or Europe will be entirely transformed within a half century or a little more. And Geert Wilders knows that and that’s part of his campaign and part of his agenda.”
King went on to criticize illegal immigration to the United States and immigrants who don’t “assimilate into the American culture.”
“Living in enclaves, refusing to assimilate into the American culture and civilization. Some embrace it, yes. But many are two and three generations living in enclaves that are pushing back now and resisting against the assimilation,” he said.
King also emphasized his view that “Western civilization” is “a superior civilization.”
This is a man who should be wearing a sheet. For all I know, he may own one. This poor excuse for an American has gotten far bolder in his hate and fear mongering since Trump was elected. It seems that quite a few bigots feel that there will be no repercussions from speaking their minds. The government can’t stop it but we can. We can speak up. We can let the haters know exactly how we feel about them. We can ridicule them. We can march, strike and boycott if push comes to shove and we can and will vote them out.
Each and it seems, every day King and his slimy cohorts in OUR government get louder and more outrageous. Each and every day more and more of us, the citizens and their, bosses become more and more outraged at the direction this government has taken. I’m truly afraid that it will get worse before it gets better but it will get better and haters like King will still be free to speak and we will be free to shun them and offer them no sympathy when they are hounded out of office or from normal American society.
