Hemp: It’s Not Just for Hippies
A few months ago I talked about flax and chia seeds. Another great seed to add is hemp. Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa species and grown specifically for industrial use. To be sure, hemp is not marijuana and marijuana is not hemp! They are distinct strains each with their own biochemical compositions and uses. It can be refined into a variety of items including biofuel, biodegradable plastics, clothing, food, insulation, paint, paper, and textiles. Put down the tie-dye.
Loaded with nutrition
Shelled hemp seeds (also called ‘hemp hearts’) are a good source of fibre and packed with other healthy benefits. The seeds contain phytosterols that lower cholesterol in the body by removing arterial fat build-up.
