Robert Matchette (The Power of Positive Picking)
By Sherry Robillard, Columnist-Reporter /worldwidehippies.com
Worldwide Hippies is sitting up and listening and we think from seeing and hearing Robert Matchette’s music videos people want to know more about him, he’s had serious numbers clocking in on his videos, which surprised even him, however World Wide Hippies knows that when someone is Genuine and Talented, word gets out and people want that experience. One Friday afternoon we talked a little music, listened a little and learned a lot from a man with a true Hippie heart overflowing with Positivity, in fact, we suspect he may have invented it.
When Robert was around five years old he fondly remembers singing a Classic Theatre tune by the name of ”Hello Dolly”written by Lois Armstrong and covered by everyone, we all know and love a melodic tune with a catchy simple hook and so did Robert, with a good start in musical theatre tunes, five years soon became 17 and he found his way around chords on a fretboard, and being taught by a truly inspirational man, who only began picking a guitar at Forty, Robert’s Dad.While their styles and taste in music were different, they somehow spoke the same language which is love of music,Roberts Dad was pure country and even had a group of buddies he jammed with, but as Robert’s licks got to where he was playing 70’s Rock, he had his Dad’s bandmates moonlighting as juniors’ band mates and country boys were Rockin with Robert.
Robert’s Dad left him with the special legacy of his own brand of music carefully crafted on a CD which will forever stay alive in that moment for Robert and probably will be passed onto his Daughter, Alcohol addiction claimed the life of Robert’s father at the very middle of his life’s journey at the age of 50,this disease has taken so many dear to us, it knows no bounds, and so it is that his Dad took his own life,he is missed by many and still to this day he is remembered and loved.
Robert himself has struggled with tobacco addiction and in 2012 was diagnosed with COPD,he no longer smokes and manages his illness with medication and oxygen when needed. For Robert, it dosen’t mean his life is over, although he has had a few close calls and at one point he thought for sure it was over. The world has plans for Robert and is not about to give him up,Mother Earth is a selfish old gal and she wants her Robert right here, the guy is amazing.I haven’t in quite some time met a person with more beauty in his words and thoughts as this guy, he is sincerely kind and happy, he is a truly blessed man and he is not afraid to show it.
There a very few who give up a child and allow another man to adopt his child into a new marriage in such an unselfish act and run the risk of loosing that child forever as Robert has with his daughter. However, Robert was able to re-establish a Father/Daughter relationship. As it turns out his daughter learned about her real Dad Robert when she was 13 and crazy as it seems, she has been looking for him fo the past 25 years. She will be visting him next year, and there is a lot to look forward in that visit, as it turns out Robert’s daughter plays the violin and there may be a collaboration in the works, I don’t think World Wide Hippies has a theme song, so I suggested he work on something, you never know, there is room for all of us at WWH in any creative capacity, wouldn’t it be great to have some of Robert’s music as the opening to a segment on Hippie TV, I think so.
Robert says he’s very happy to be alive and he loves to play his guitar and share his music on Facebook and when he gets a like from someone he dosen’t know from a place he’s never been that makes his world complete. He says he started a page for any guitar player that jams because he got kicked out of worldwide acoustic for putting electric music on there but it’s the best thing that could of happened. He enjoys going to live shows where he can share and post other people’s music as well.
Robert says Face book is the shit for sure he had three goals in life, one live longer than his father, two find his daughter and three get his music out there on CD and so his bucket list is now complete. Now this new chapter on the internet is an ever unfolding adventure, for Robert it’s truly a wonderful life,There was a song he put out on video 100 times when he got out of the hospital, he thought they sent him home to die but that was not the case, the song got 4000 views and he thanks the internet for that , he’s very grateful. He’s really into Grunge and will be going to see Chris Cornell in June and he saw Eddie vedder last year, Robert says ”Man what a show” that was.
Back in the day Robert played in a lot of Bands in Dallas and was always looking for an open mic, he’s now 57yrs old lives in Florida,he uses a looper and youtube to create his layered sounds, he owns A Yamaha electric and a Star acoustic Guitars, he invites any guitar player that jams please check out his page when you have time, you will hear music that you don’t hear just anywhere.Robert’s message to the world is ” Let the love inside you be shared with the love you make” God Bless
