I took a lil mid winter break after holidays and thought winter was almost officially over with February temps zooming almost up to 70 degree in a Tri State areas every other day, but I was wrong.
I have conceded that the” female gender named storm ” have more power, speed ,multitasking force, their sneaky and they deliver their wrath swiftly, relentlessly, equally are unforgettably. I have always wondered how storms Nor’easters or Hurricanes get their names. If your wondering too here is a reference line https://weather.com/news/
Take some photos of Stella in all her glory and wreckage!
If you have a porch, deck, garage , yard, BURY FREEZABLES.. and perishables , if you have a car, load it up otherwise get some non perishables on hand and stock up.
I’m all for comfort cooking during a storm, but only what one can eat and a reasonable amount at that time because our freezers and fridges may not be available..
So below is a list a great Storm food to stock up on when power is out and you have nowhere to bury your food.
Fruit, and vegetables that can sit out on a counter up to a week
Canned- dreaded as it is- are fine, we can rinse canned food through a storm and eat it
Corn beef hash, any smoked cooked sausages or cured meats and
beans, beans, more beans- all varieties work.
Pre-cooked stews and add water and stir and canned soups
Apples are excellent, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, grapes,as well, fennel, celery and tomatoes.~~~~~
Cracker snack packets, any assortment pb and cheese
Baby food and pulsed fruit and puddings in snack packs
Canned or Dry milk
Pretzels and such.
extra gloves ,hats , socks, stock up keep some handy!
Batteries, flash lights, (remember “TAP IT” lights), they work wonderfully, so do hand held battery lanterns
Toilet paper, cat and dog food, litter
Gas for car and snow blowers~~~
Charge up all devices before they need a charge.
Use a portable charger
if your heat is OFF and you should of gone to a Shelter or families home and are within walking- go to big Grocery chains during the day, stay as long as you can , they usually have back up Generators and are open 24/7 and they have power plugs and food.
Wear BRIGHT COLORS when walking in white out windy winter weather..
RED and ORANGE are best..(NEON HOT PINK works too:)
Board games are awesome way to pass time when all is down, so is a good card game, if alone Solitaire is great knitting, reading, sewing…sleeping and such..
Clean..sort out a closet and drawers
Rearrange your Cupboards for Spring..
Dust, dance if ya got music ..(Body heat) hugs yourself, hug a friend, hug a enemy, snuggle your beloved fur baby..warm them up too!
CHECK ON LOVED ONES AND NEIGHBORS
SMILE and LAUGH it increases BLOOD FLOW, WARMS YOUR BODY and decreases stress and releases endorphins..
Your not racing the snow. The snow it will come back from the clouds or wind gusts or lake till it ends, so just clear it and areas as needed
stretch before going out shoveling and after
Please do not over suit up( remember Randy in”A CHRISTMAS STORY!”)
Walk a snow blower-yes push it some but do not force it to go faster while BLOWING, its not a snow mobile.if you push to fast you will find your blower jammed and broken like are Maitanance Man did and be stuck in a Igloo!.
Hydrate..room temp fluid is best
Please do not shovel with a cigarette, blunt or cigar, or pipe hanging out of your mouth-ya need your lungs!
What to keep in your car:
Blankets, juice boxes, bottles of water, first aid kit, medicine, baby aspirin, shovel, power charger, flash light, flares, oil, extra gloves, jumper cable or portable charger, boots, hats, sock foot and hand warmers , cell phone paper map and some of those cracker packets and dry foods like cereal, cat litter, it can help when stuck on ice to make traction!Serve somebody..Check on your neighbors truly doing for others really does help you and them, so do what you can for your local Shelters too !
Wishing you all warmth and saftey
Peace N love and remember
