I hadn’t seen this person (and I use the word person with generosity) in some time. I was hoping he had left this dumpster fire of a Whitehouse. He is one of the smarmier players in this farcical administration. He popped again up after Trump announced that he wants LEGAL immigrants to be able to speak English AND have a skill set that benefits his version of America. I’ll get back to this in a bit. FOX news had a news cycle full of praise for the rude and nasty way he handled a reporter’s insistence on getting an answer. Miller’s words were right out of a Hollywood dictator’s script. The yakkers over at FOX were giddy over them. I was sickened. That’s why this column.
Miller tossed out the poem on the statue of liberty as meaningless because it was added after the dedication. There’s a good reason why it was but as we’ve seen if facts can’t be ignored by this administration; they can be twisted and tied in a knot.
Back to just who or what this man is, please read it:
HOW STEPHEN MILLER RODE WHITE RAGE FROM DUKE’S CAMPUS TO TRUMP’S WEST WINGAt the young age of 31, Stephen Miller has his own office in the West Wing and the President’s ear. He also has held a shocking worldview since he was a teenager. From his writings on the 2006 Duke lacrosse-team rape scandal, which gave the then–college junior national media exposure, to an alleged association with a white-nationalist advocate, William D. Cohan dives deep into Miller’s tumultuous past.

Now, to get back to the English speaking, well skilled part that Trump wants-
My grandparents came here through Ellis Island. So did my husbands; so did most of the family and folks that I knew growing up. My husband’s grandfather came and couldn’t read or write in English. He marked an X where he was told his name was on the form. That’s how his name was changed from what it was to Celender. He couldn’t read or spell it and the official couldn’t pronounce it. My husband’s other grandfather did get to keep his name. He also sent all of his sons but one to fight in WWII. One stayed in the service till he retired. My grandfather sent two sons to the service. All were born here. One was a navigator/bomber. He was sent to bomb Italy (where most of his relatives still lived) before they’d trust to send him to bomb Germany. My mom was one of the secretaries for Omar Bradly in D.C. during the war. My family’s story isn’t unique. These were immigrants proud to be in America and who worked hard to become Americans. As an aside, this, “papers please” crap of having to carry at all times and present your paperwork to whatever government agent that demands to see them based on skin shade or accent is one of the dictatorial practices so many left their birthplace to escape. My grandfather had a heavy accent his entire life but he was one of the smartest, most hard working and kindest men I have been privileged to know. My great Aunt Rachel never spoke English but she sent her sons to fight in WWII. Where and when have any of the Trumps fought?
So, Stephen Miller can tap dance with the FACT of how long it was before the plaque and the poem were added to the Statue of Liberty but the FACT that it is there cannot be denied. I suppose, if you’ve read the article I put here than you, like me have figured out that Miller was sent out to say the things that he did because he was the only member of this sham Whitehouse that was unashamed to say them.
